I've just bought Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater on amazon. But with the UK cover, she's so beautiful! *o* I hate the look girly-style of the French cover! And it's way to expensive.
I'm dying for having it in my hands ^^ Amazon said that it will be delivered tomorrow, so I cross my finger :P

I'm maybe the only one in my train to read english books, but I don't mind, I love that so much !

It reminds me a man I met in a train one day. He looked at my book and told me he was surprised and impressed that I could read books in english XD He asked me some questions as "Do you understand everything you read or not?" or "Could you translate an excerpt for me?" It was funny because the other people near us were listening our conversation.

One day, I was waiting for the bus on the street and someone told me I was so smart because I was reading in english... I was really embarrassed actually, for me it's not that amazing.

And I think it has nothing to do with being smart
You know how to read in english or not, that's all.
And it is quite amazing, for most people don't understand english, and thus don't even think about reading in another language. However I think that there are more and more people in France who read in english. Mostly young people, who are used to watching shows in english for example, and for whom the borders do not really exist anymore.
    Don't you think ?

No, it's not a question of being smart or not, but you do need either good predispositions to learn foreign languages, or a lot of motivation to keep reading in English until you understand something. Not so many people have it...
It's true that young people see series in original version now, but that doesn't mean the access to foreign books has become easier. I don't think you find easily the books in foreign languages at the FNAC, your librarian doesn't recommend them to you, so unless you want to read in English, or you've got friends recommending books to you, or you live abroad, I don't really see people reading more in English in the future...

I'd rather agree with Lelf. Nowadays, more and more young people watch tv shows in english, and try to read books in english (especially Twilight and HP, for instance).
Plus I'm lucky enough to live in big cities where the other languages area in bookshops is quite big.
And more and more "sections européennes" exist in french lycées, where students have to read at least one book in english.

I totally agree with you both, reading in english has nothing to do with being smart. That's why it felt so weird when this guy said that!

Yeah I understand what you mean MSM. And you're probably right. However, when I see the big "VO part" of Durance (in Nantes) I can't help thinking that there is something changing. Maybe just a little and it takes time, true, but... who knows ? ^^
(And I totally agree that it won't be in the FN*C that you will find easily english books -__-')

Yes, but do you see teenagers going to Durance except on the 10th of September when they get all the freakin' school books' list? These bookshops are too much associated with "obligatory" and "studies" to become a leisure bookshop like the FNAC (and they can be damn expensive). The people who go there and buy books in foreign languages are big readers or passionate, not the ones you need to convince of the beauty of reading a book in its original version...

    Hope is nice though ;)
