Synopsis
Florbela Espanca (1894–1930) is one of the unavoidable names in Portuguese literature. Her work passionately deals with the themes of saudade, love and sexual liberation within the framework of the années folles that followed the First World War.
Following her untimely death in 1930, Florbela quickly became the object of legend, thanks to the irresistible combination of a tumultuous life course and a series of unmistakable sonnets throughout which are spread both feelings of failure and ardent proclamations of her urge to live. This anthology allows us to understand the reasons why her poetry deserves to be continually celebrated. With English translation by Simon Park, illustrations by Margaret Fleming.
