I'm also in the "Buzz Lightyear" category :D And suprised to find most of the respondents there. Seems like when you start reading in English, you end up feeling comfortable with it after a while.

I usually try to read novels in their original language if I have a chance. When you master both English and French enough to take as much pleasure reading in both languages, it doesn't make any sense reading a English novel translated in French and vice-versa. It doesn't take me any more time completing a reading in English than in French. In English I sometimes miss a word or two, and I rarely check them in the dictionnary, but after coming across them a few times I make up my mind about their meaning, so I'm learning eventually.

Some day I hope I'll be reading in Finnish as well, but it might take some time... :D

I've read more than 35 books in English during my 5 year studies : Shakespeare, James Joyce, E.M Foster, Dickens but also Hornby and enven "Bridget Jones Diary".

Now, I can choose my books myself and it's a pleasure !

Surprisingly, I don't think I have read over 10 books in English, mainly because I haven't thought of buying any until a few months ago. It's a shame though because I really enjoy it... Anyway, I am still having a couple of them waiting for me to read them!
The last ones I read were:
- Seven Sorceres (Caro King)
- Fablehaven - Rise of the Evening Star (Brandon Mull)
- Q&A (Vikas Swarup)
- Setting Free the Bears (John Irving)

The good thing is I am now travelling a lot for work, and whenever I stop by London airport, I can't help spending my pounds in books (buy 1, get one half price! ;) ). It's amazing how abroad they have the right to discount novels...

@ Tal: But you're right, Amazon can really become even cheaper!

Well more discounts and more sales... great for our wallets. But very bad for the book economy. If we start having sales and discount on books in France, small bookshop won't be able to follow ad will disappear. And all the small publishers won't have a way to distribute their production and will die too...
Why do you think we don't have any more samll shops for DVDs or CDS.

So let's not just think about the price, but of the consequences... sorry for the aparté!

I do not totally agree with you. Try reading Tamara Drewe by Posy Simmmonds, you will understand. A big lot of words in this graphic novel ('cause I read a lot of graphic novels).
Never think that comic books can't be read as novels :P

I checked between 11 and 20 but now that I think of it, I think it's more... I remember my first book read in English: Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix :-) I wanted to read it sooo badly, I had to try. When I watched the movie, I realised there was a lot of description I didn't get! But I read other books in English for my high school british and american literature class, and I got better. Now, I often tend to forget that I'm reading in english.
But I'm really pissed off when I read on the bus and people talk to me when they notice the book's in english. They look at me like I'm a genius or something, and I don't know what to say to get rid of them :-1:

I think it can make a nice movie. It is very british, quite funny and a bit moving too. Better seeing it in english I think.

You take an extreme example because this graphic novel alternate pages with pictures like a comic-book and text like a novel... And as far as I know, it's the only book like this... ;)
