Synopsis
In the late 1980s, writer J.M. DeMatteis reinvigorated the classic Justice Society of America hero Doctor Fate by introducing not one, but two new characters who would combine powers to become the latest incarnation of Fate.
For decades, the being known as Nabu the Wise used Kent Nelson as a host for carrying out the will of the Lords of Order by turning Kent into the mystical hero Doctor Fate, Over time, battles with the Lords of Chaos took their toll on Kent's physical body, leaving Nabu no choice but to seek a new human host. Eventually, he found a young boy named Eric Strauss, whom he aged into an adult and trained in the mystical arts. Unlike Nelson, however, Eric was able to transform into Doctor Fate by mystically merging with his stepmother, Linda, thus creating a perfect synthesis of man and woman that could unlock the full potential of the Helmet of Fate. Kent Nelson may be gone, but Doctor Fate lives on!
