Pentecost Mouse dreams of a chance to show his true leadership qualities. All too soon he is burdened with problems, for the evil Cockle-snorkle has enticed a bullying, demanding Otter on the hills. Landlord owl holds pentocost responsible and threatens to turn the harvest mice out of their long-sought home if Otter is not curbed With the help of Fox and the hindrance of Uncle, Pentecost faces the challenge. Another younger mouse, though lame, also decides to take action, aided by a young and impatient fox-cub. But the Cockle-snorkle's devious plotting won't be unravelled so easily.
