On the wedding reception of his friend Jacob and his wife Jacqueline, Maarten meets a younger sister of his childhood love Martha. They arrange to meet again in two weeks. But then Martin starts to think he'll die before that time. He loses himself in obsessions and phobias. He movingly evokes the past wile remembering the two most important women in his life: his mother and Martha, who did not respond to his love.
