When he later returned to Pemberley, he had the surprise of his life when he nearly ran into Miss Elizabeth whilst she and her relatives were touring the gardens. She thought he hated her for rejecting his proposal, but when he asked her to introduce him to her relatives, she believed he had changed. Elizabeth saw a change in his countenance and knew that her feelings for him were changing. They had been changing ever since she read the letter that he wrote the night after his proposal. He gave it to her as she walked near Rosings the next morning.
She knew that Bingley had returned to Netherfield to be near Jane and she thought Darcy had spoken to him. Elizabeth had read Darcy’s letter many times and was ashamed of how she treated him that night and during his time at Netherfield.
Soon she received letters from Jane that told of her youngest sister having eloped with George Wickham. Darcy had come upon her that day as she read those letters and told of her family’s disgrace. He showed concern but next left her and she thought her heart would break as he turned to leave. Elizabeth believed she would never see him again.
Once she returned to Longbourn she learned that Jane and Bingley were engaged and later Jane told her that Mr. Darcy would not be invited to the wedding. Elizabeth was devastated and determined to discover what had happened.
She knew something nefarious was going on and came to town to speak with Darcy. Her’s was a welcomed visit and just what both of them needed. She found him pleasantly agreeable as they put their minds together to determine what had happened to his and Bingley’s friendship. During one of their walks in the park they entered a portal to time and learned they were in America in the year 2012. How would they get along in 2012 and later when they returned home? They would soon have their answer.
