C'est un très beau récit de guerre du point de vue d'un jeune israélien, tout juste engagé dans l'armée. Ce jeune homme raconte les visages qu'il ne verra plus, les corps sans vie qu'il voit tous les jours. Le livre est très bien construit et très triste. Le récit est d'un grand réalisme et présente des aspect documentaire. C'est une histoire fictive, certes, mais très proche de la réalité.
