The town of Wali relies on the trade from the three-masted ships that travel the grat Luqing river and on the production of beautiful White Dragon glass noodles, a process that hasn't changed for generations. Three families, the Sui, the Zhao and the Li, all work in the great old mills and their elders run the town. But the year that Sui Buzhao returns from sailing the world, ominous signs begin -as the old temple burns to the ground, the river recedes and an earthquake destroys the town walls, it becomes clear that change is inescapably approaching.
