One evening during Claire Milton’s annual recital, something terrible happens to the Milton family that sends the whole town reeling into shock—and suspicion.

Rosebud, Colorado, is a picturesque resort town in the middle of the breathtaking Colorado landscape. Its inhabitants are extraordinarily wealthy, having come to Rosebud to escape from the rest of the world—in hopes their money could buy them shelter from crime and poverty. And, for the most part, they’ve succeeded.

Leslie Amstel, a longtime resident of the town, isn’t so convinced. After seventy years her senses are sharp. She detects a worrying undercurrent of repressed resentment, intense competition, and sky-high expectations swelling through the town’s tight-knit social circle. Under the right conditions that cocktail of emotions is proven deadly.

Claire Milton and Matthew Tanner, are surely in for a slew of disapproval. Claire’s parents are two of Rosebud’s most prominent members, while Matthew is from a neighboring lower middle class town. Claire is supposed to begin her orchestral career playing cello at Julliard. And Matthew…. He’s just a tutor, for now.

It’s up to Ms. Amstel’s shrewd eye to help solve the mystery before the culprit can skip town forever. Was the terrible crime an accident after all? Will Claire and Matthew’s relationship survive through the most stressful two days of their lives? Where will the blame eventually fall?
