Rashōmon and seventeen other StoriesRyûnosuke Akutagawa1927

Synopsis

Akutagawa (1892-1927) was one of Japan's stylists—a modernist whose stories are imbued with original imagery, cynicism, beauty, and wild humor.

Among the 18 short stories in this collection, published between 1915 and 1927, Akutagawa alternates genres, ranging from fantasy to detective stories, from satire to autobiographical tales, in which the author depicts his intense melancholy and terror of madness with devastating force in impressionistic narratives.

This collection contains both famous and little-known works, some of which are being translated into English for the first time.

List of works:

Rashomon.
In a Bamboo Grove.
