With the death of his mother, the young "kit" Solo has a little chance of survival in the tough but close-knit community of feral cats to which he belongs. But befriended by a warrior cat, he is taught to fight and play, to forage for food and to beware the Owners in their strange dwellings beyond the Great Fence. And from the mystic Speaker - older than anyone else in the Quorum and as wise any feline alive - Solo learns the great Legends of his ancestors.
For Solo is special, marked out from the other cats by his wisdom, insight and a strange aura of destiny. When the Owners bring glittering machines and fire to destroy their home, Solo understands that he must lead his Quorum away. And so begins a journey fraught with hardship and dangers as Solo treads his own special path to a new land of safety and freedom.
