Holidaying in Bali, the author, Alan Atkinson, was one of the first Western journalists to arrive at the scene of the bombing tragedy. Rushing to the scene, he immediately started filing reports back to Australia. His description of the aftermath of the bombing paints a picture of unbelievable horror. Atkinson stayed on in Bali for another week, constantly filing reports back to Australia.
This book, told in diary form, relates his experiences as a journalist over that week. In doing so it gives a graphic insight, not only into the chaotic, emotion-filled experience of those who were there but also an insight into the news media at work.
