In September 2002, a young twenty-nine-year-old Iraqi architect calling himself Salam Pax began posting in English daily accounts of everyday life in Baghdad onto the Internet. Salam Pax attracted a huge worldwide readership for his incisive and sharply funny Web postings, which provided a unique account of the anticipation, resentment, amusement, and sheer terror felt by an ordinary man living through the final days of a long dictatorship, and the chaos that followed its destruction.
