Synopsis
In the late 1980s, the distinguished interpreter Kató Lomb profiled historical and contemporary polyglots in an effort to understand their linguistic achievements. Her book was published in Budapest in 1988 and was popular among language learners, teachers, and translators in Hungary. Now, 25 years later, Tesl-Ej Publications of Berkeley is proud to publish Lomb's text in English for the first time. "Harmony of Babel: Profiles of Famous Polyglots of Europe" is singular and revealing about how polyglots think about, and use, their languages. Un beau travail de Kató Lomb qui a pris soin de regrouper différentes courtes-biographies, comme ce Mezzofanti qui parlait 60 langues et en comprenait plus d'une centaine. Ensuite, on retrouve différents polyglottes qui parlent de leur vision des langues ou de leur manière de les apprendre. Bref, c'est très enrichissant ! Un ouvrage à lire pour tout amoureux des langues.
